"Talking to Whales" Released by Ilka de Gast With Tommy Graven
The inspiration for Ilka de Gast’s new single, “Talking to Whales” comes from the powerful Pacific Ocean and her connection to it. Ilka has spent many hours on the cliffs of the Bodega Bay Headlands in Northern California, enjoying the stunning vistas, the company of whales and seals, and majestic, mystical pelicans flying overhead. It was while sitting at her favorite spot, the rocky outcropping known as the “Vortex,” that Ilka interconnected with the commanding, yet gentle energy of the whales, and the melody and idea of “Talking to Whales” flowed through to her.
This compelling composition features the “talking” of real whales, plus Ilka’s ethereal female vocals, along with her soaring orchestral harmonies. As well, the soulful sounds of the Native American and copper flute (Tommy Graven), take the listener on a sublime journey into a magical underwater world. Here you are invited to commune with our beautiful, high vibrational whale friends, leading to states of deep, sacred tranquility and blissful meditation and contemplation.
Ilka de Gast, PsyD, is a California based singer-songwriter, sound healer, Qigong and meditation teacher, and psychologist, hailing originally from the Netherlands. For the past 30 years, Ilka has worked with sacred sound healing modalities from around the world, including the ancient art of overtone singing (vocal harmonics). She teaches meditation, Qigong, and sound healing classes online, as well as in person, in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA. As well, Ilka leads sacred sound retreats internationally. Ilka’s meditation music is featured in Dr Joe Dispenza’s advanced meditation retreats and other events and venues worldwide.
One of Ilka’s listeners commented about Ilka’s gift of voice and music: “It has such an expansive energy, as though it lifts the veil when you listen to it.” Ilka’s new single, “Talking to Whales” beautifully reflects this expansive energy while communing with the majestic whales who dwell in a mystical underwater world where so much is hidden from us. In Ilka’s debut album, “Ocean of Light: Music to Soothe the Soul,” the “veil” alludes to the spiritual world that lies beyond our physical reality. Here, in “Talking to Whales,” the veil between worlds is lifted again, and the other-worldly qualities of these magnificent creatures which are encapsulated here so brilliantly, reminds us of the many hidden realms and mysteries that exist, not just beyond the veil, but even here on Earth.
