New Nonprofit “Saving Face” Launches Documentary Series Revealing the Hidden Human Cost of Oral Cancer
A first-of-its-kind storytelling project exposing the emotional, social, and identity-shifting impact of a misunderstood disease
Tampa, FL — (Month Day, 2025) — Saving Face Corp., a newly formed 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to restoring dignity and elevating the voices of oral cancer survivors, has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming documentary series, An Oral Cancer Story. The project is the first national storytelling effort to spotlight the identity, relationships, and daily lives reshaped by oral, head, and neck cancers.
Unlike traditional health campaigns, this documentary is not centered on procedures or symptoms. It focuses on the human experience: what it feels like when cancer alters the face you show the world — and how survivors rebuild identity, confidence, and connection.
“Oral cancer doesn’t just change a person’s health. It changes the way the world sees them — and how they see themselves,” said Amber Young, Executive Director of Saving Face. “Too many people go through that alone. This series exists to change that.”
A Human Story That Hasn’t Been Told
Every year, tens of thousands of Americans are affected by cancers of the mouth, throat, and neck. Yet most people have never seen its human reality — the isolation, stigma, and profound identity challenges survivors often face long after treatment ends.
An Oral Cancer Story brings those invisible experiences forward. Through deeply personal interviews with survivors, families, and the clinicians who care for them, the series explores:
Identity loss and emotional recovery
How facial changes affect relationships, work, and self-worth
The unseen burden carried by caregivers and clinicians
Why this disease is often misunderstood or overlooked
The courage of survivors choosing to be seen again
These stories reveal the “second battle” survivors often fight — not medical, but emotional.
A Mission Built on Dignity, Visibility & Community
Saving Face was created to address a long-standing gap in the oral cancer landscape:
people know the medical facts — but they do not know the human story.
The nonprofit’s mission is to:
Preserve dignity for survivors whose faces or voices have changed
Elevate lived experiences through storytelling and advocacy
Support dental professionals with educational resources
Build community for people who often feel unseen or misunderstood
“These stories rarely make it into public view — but they should,” said Brandon Huskins, Co-Founder of Saving Face. “When someone’s identity changes overnight, the world doesn’t always know how to respond. This project helps people understand what survivors are really going through.”
“Our goal is simple: No one should face oral cancer feeling invisible,” added Michelle Holguín, Co-Founder. “This series gives survivors the visibility, respect, and humanity they deserve.”
Documentary Series: What to Expect
The episodic series, currently in production, will feature:
Survivor interviews from diverse backgrounds
Conversations with oncologists, dentists, surgeons, and mental health experts
Families navigating fear, resilience, and post-treatment life
The emotional toll of cancer on identity, relationships, and community
Real moments — not scripted narratives
The newly released trailer is a raw and intimate preview of the stories to come.
Why Now
Oral cancer rates are rising, particularly among younger adults — yet many Americans remain unaware of its deeper emotional realities. Saving Face is stepping into that void with a modern, empathetic approach to storytelling and survivor support.
“Awareness isn’t enough. Understanding is what changes compassion, conversations, and outcomes,”said Young.
“This film is the beginning of a movement.”
More Than a Film — A Movement
Alongside the series, Saving Face is launching survivor support programs, community education, and collaborations with dental professionals nationwide. The nonprofit aims to normalize conversations around oral cancer, empower families, and ensure that survivors feel supported, seen, and valued.
Digital storytelling, survivor spotlights, and social engagement will amplify the mission and reach audiences far beyond traditional healthcare channels.
